Rainy Day Recess
Please go to the following classrooms: First Grade, Fourth Grade, and Seventh Grade.
General Outside Playground Duties
- Walk around and monitor the back field area during all three recesses.
- Monitor ball games taking place on the field.
- Keep an eye on children playing along the back fence and in the trees along the back, right side of the yard. Children should not be playing in dirt areas, or picking up rocks and sticks of any size.
- When the whistle is blown for the kindergarteners to line up, we need a parent to join the group and escort them through the building and down to the cafeteria for lunch. Please return to the playground and resume monitoring duties.
- Children are allowed to go to the bathroom after asking a staff or parent. In MOST cases, children should go by themselves. They can go into the building through the main school doors, or the staff member can let them in through the coded doors by the office.
- Do not congregate near other parents. To ensure the safety of all students on the playground, we need watchful parents to be spaced throughout the playground during every recess.
- Do allow our student Partners in Peace (PIPs) to help with playground issues.
Rock Wall
- Kindergarteners and first graders are not allowed to sit on top of the rock wall, however they are allowed to touch the top. All other grades may sit on the wall’s top, if they are able to get down themselves.
- No standing up on the top of the wall
- No jumping off the top of the wall
- Five (5) students may sit on the top of the rock wall for a maximum of five (5) minutes at a time.
Slides
- No climbing or running up, slide is for sliding down
- One person on the slide at a time, no tandem or train sliding
- No swinging from the top of the slide
Climbing Structures
- No hanging upside-down from knees only
- Two hands must be holding onto the bars at all times
- Kindergarteners may not climb over the top of the structures
Yellow Wheels
- Only one student on each wheel at a time.
- Those waiting to go on wheels may not put any part of their bodies (hands, legs, etc.) in the wheel area interfering with those on the wheels.
- Students may only be on wheels if they can reach them from the steps (bars).
Swings
- If chain is jerking, swinger is going too high (no swinging greater than 45° angle).
- No standing in the bark chip area around the swings unless student is swinging.
- Swinging towards the school building only, no side-to-side swinging, and no twisting swings.
- If a swing chain is wrapped around the pole, it is not to be used.
- No running, chasing, or tag games in the bark chipped area.
- No climbing up poles.
