We made some exciting changes to the Library last year. We have moved to the Destiny Library Management System hosted by the Northwest Regional Educational Service District. Destiny brings library, textbook, and instructional media together. This is offered on a single shared server, with easy browser access and shared student data. What that means for our community is access to our library from virtually anywhere. Not only can you access books that are in our collection but you can also go to Destiny Quest and WebPath Express which is a web-based subscription purchased from Follett Corporation, consisting of 60,000 plus web sites appropriate for levels K-12. These sites are continously vetted for objectivity, accuracy, authority and currency by Follett. This is a great resource for both our teachers and students. The 2nd-8th grade students will be trained on how to use Destiny when they come down to Library this Fall. The teachers had a workshop introducing them to Destiny during our inservice week. There is a link to Destiny on the Library Overview page.
We continue to receive EBSCO Host through OSLIS. The EBSCO database is a valuable resource and is especially helpful once students are doing research reports in class. This database provides access to over 11,000 periodicals with the full text of articles, along with more reference books, maps, and other information resources in electronic format. These EBSCO databases will only be available through OSLIS. (Oregon School Library Information System). The OSLIS website address is www.oslis.k12.or.us. Grades 4th-8th are shown how to use this database during their Library time.
