GUIDELINES FOR SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL

Guest Presentations

Prior to the meeting, parents who wish to have the Council deliberate on an issue should make prior arrangements with the Chair to place it on the agenda.  The Council should not entertain opening the floor to parents who have not followed this procedure.

Open the meeting with a prayer, followed by self-introduction of visitors and Advisory Council members.

Guests will have 3 minutes to make a presentation.  Each will be timed.

Council members may ask questions, but please be sensitive to the time given to questioning.  We still have an agenda to tackle.

It is possible that the Council will want to involve other parents in committee work.  This is fine, although before any work is delegated, the Council should decide how parents would be involved.

After all presentations have been heard, and questions answered, we thank our visitors and proceed with the regular agenda.

The Chair advises visitors that we will take up their concerns either at a special meeting or at the next regularly scheduled Advisory Council Mtg.  The Advisory Council will send a written response to the committee or designated person within a week of making the decision.

Should issues such as personnel, discipline, individual student concerns, etc. be raised by non-Advisory member parents, they should kindly be advised to see the principal in private.

Unless we go into executive session, issues around topics presented by parents, such as foreign language, will be discussed with parents present should they wish to stay for the duration of a meeting.  This can be uncomfortable for the Advisory Council, but allows parents to see the Council in action, and see the decision making process.

As we approach the regular agenda, visitors may not question or add to any other agenda item.  It is strictly the role of the Council to speak to the issues on the table.
