A PROGRAM OVERVIEW

 

A quality physical education program is an important component in the total education of children.  With the increasing sedentary lives of today’s children, it is of the utmost importance that children are receiving a well-rounded physical education program as part of their school curriculum.  As a physical educator, I believe that my primary responsibility is to provide a variety of opportunities for students to move, play games, cooperate, demonstrate sportsmanship skills, and be successful so they will enter into their adult life with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to enjoy a physically active and healthy lifestyle.

 

 

OBJECTIVES

 

*   to foster in children a love of physical activity and play

*   to instill a need for physical fitness in each child

*   to develop coordination, grace, and control

*   to provide opportunities for increased responsibility in leadership

*   to give children a wide variety skills, games, and dance experiences as possible

*   to present opportunities for children to belong to a group in which each child is accepted

*   to provide experiences that will develop initiative, self-reliance, self-worth, loyalty, honesty, kindness to others, and a love of learning

*   to develop a sense of fair play and cooperation in children and the ability to work in groups, leading to increased cultural understanding

*   to provide opportunities for integration of PE in other subject areas
