Principal's Note

We hope you had a terrific Spring Break.  When that week rolls around, I really know there is a God!  We also hope you enjoyed the Talent Show before hitting the road last week.  My group of four 3rd grade girls thank you for your incredible support of our Macarena performance.  I’d like you to know I’ve only had tap dancing lessons! J

I will be meeting this Saturday with the team of camp leaders who will run our Summer Camp experience; therefore, next week you should receive a program description and registration form.  We’re getting excited about this offering, and know you will too, when you hear what we have to offer.

Conferences are coming up.  In today’s mailing you will find the conference letter/form for you to complete and return by next Tuesday.  You will be notified by your child’s teacher if she wishes to see you for a conference; otherwise, there is no need for you to schedule one unless, of course, you have some concerns and wish to request a conference.  With limited time off from school, we have too few time slots for conferencing and must necessarily limit conferences only to those who need one, or to those whom teachers wish to see.  We so appreciate it when you are prompt in returning the form.  We’ll schedule conferences right away and confirm your time.

I will be away next week at the National Catholic Education Association convention in Baltimore gaining new pearls of wisdom from my Catholic school colleagues across the nation.  If you need me for anything, please go ahead and email me.  I’ll set up appointments when I return.

Hope you are all thinking about the Speech Festival that is coming up on April 20th.  Each year we are more and more impressed with the level of difficulty chosen by our students and the polished delivery of each recited poem or excerpt.  Thank you parents, for helping with the selections and oral practice.  Public speaking is an important part of our children’s education.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

We are having an information meeting on Sunday, April 15 after the 9 am Mass in the school library.

  • What is a “prayer shawl” ministry?” This is a prayerful experience. We will be knitting and crocheting shawls for those in need of solace and comfort.
  • What kind of commitment is required? We will meet once a month in the evening to knit, pray, and share. Much of the work will be completed at home. Help will be available on Sundays after Mass. You may also call us at anytime with questions.
  • Can I knit/crochet at home? Please do. In fact, this will be important to continue a steady supply of shawls. We have simple, quick patterns to help us build our inventory.
  • What if I don’t know how to knit or crochet? We’ll teach you. The shawls are made with very simple stitches.
  • Do I need to belong to the parish to participate? No. Everyone is welcome, high school age and older. This is a community building ministry full of blessings that flow between the crafter and the recipient around our faith community, our ministry circle, and our lives.
  • Will it cost me any money? People who currently knit/crochet will have their own needles/hooks and leftover yarn to use. For those without, we will supply basic materials. As the ministry grows, our yarn supplies will increase.
  • I don't have time to do this right now.  Is there another way to participate? As with all ministries, we welcome donations, whether they be monetary or knitting/crochet supplies. They may be dropped off at the parish office.
One of the blessings of this ministry is that everyone can participate, whether they have never picked up a knitting needle/crochet hook or they’ve been doing it for years. We’d love to have a few experienced people who are also willing to teach others.
