BASC Director, Christina Reilly will be returning to our BASC program next year as Director.  Her hours will be from 6:45 a.m.—8:15 a.m. and 2:00—6:00 (1:00—6:00 Tuesdays).  Christina has provided us a great program with enrichment, and a safe environment. BASC is a great compliment to our school program.  I’m delighted to have her return next year.

One of our summer projects will be to knock down the castle area in the center of the BASC room as it is a barrier to visual supervision of our children.  We will be moving the middle school math room upstairs to the BASC room.  Mrs. Kreitzberg will take over in this room at 8:05 each morning.

The old math room next to the computer lab will become a SCRIP room and PTC room as well as a tutoring room.   The SCRIP room will be used for archiving all the data and records we are required to keep.  Hopefully, we can make other improvements to our building this summer, but until I’m sure I have the $$$$, I’ll wait to mention them at a later date!

It was a pleasure to join Mrs. Maher and all of our Kindergarten mothers in a special prayer service for them yesterday in what Mrs. Maher titled, “Muffins For Moms!”  It’s a touching moment for our moms, and yes, Kleenex is available and needed!  We look at our 24 K kids and realize how ready they are for 1st grade.   So much growing up in one year!

On these hot days our classrooms are very, very hot, and kids and teachers wilt by the afternoon.  It would not be beyond me when a temperature like yesterday hits in the 90’s to call a free dress day so that kids can wear walking shorts.   That’s why it’s always good to check your email for a last minute announcement!

The candidates for Student Council will be giving their speeches in the gym on Friday at 11:00 a.m.  If parents would like to attend, you are most welcome.

Kathy Kowash, Director of Religious Education, will be retiring at the end of this school year.  Kathy has done so much for our school children over the past nine years.  Many of you know how she has prepared our school and parish children for the sacraments and helped our teachers plan their weekly liturgies…..all this in addition to her many other duties.  She has been a great friend to St. Clare School and we will miss her very much.  We will be honoring her at our end of the year Mass which we hope you can celebrate with us.  Kathy will surely be missed.  We hope she will continue her long relationship with our students and teachers.

In a newsletter called HELPING NEIGHBORS, we discovered an article on two of our Kindergarten girls.  Here’s a perfect example of living a Gospel value at five years old!

Pals, Kara D’Ascenzo and Annie Brennan, both Kindergarteners, recently celebrated their sixth birthdays at a joint party.  Instead of gifts, the girls requested their friends bring food to help people in need.  They donated five bags of groceries to Neighborhood House’s Emergency Food Box Program.  Kara’s mom said, I was a little surprised, but they really wanted to do this.  It’s such a good thing.”

Kara and Annie…..we’re very proud of you!

Kyle and Sean Milligan will be acting principals this Thursday.  Their first order of business is to declare a free dress day on Friday, May 19th!  I haven’t heard what other extraordinary mandates they will have for their classmates, so stayed tuned.  Sr. Moe will be relaxing on the beach in Waikiki…..in her dreams!  Our school will be under the good care of the Milligan boys.
