There are so many things going on in our classrooms that are truly rich experiences for our students.  I’d like to share some recent ones.

Mr. Puccio's Science Fair proved the theory that if you put proud parents of proud kids with mind titillating projects all in the same hallway, magic happens....the magic of oohs and awes, the magic of knowledge and wonder, and the magic of love and family.  What a successful evening.

Projects were judged by former St. Clare students Tim Foglesong, Jackson Wong, Lauren Tehan, April Bell, Steve Kiyokawa, Andy Kiyokawa and Oliver Marsh, all of whom know Mr. Puccio’s expectations!

I am proud to announce the following winners:

3rd Place Winners: Ally Blaskowsky, 6th grade, Kyle Milligan, 7th grade, Megan Baglien, 8th grade.

2nd Place Winners: Danielle Brown, 6th grade, Mary Mulvey, 7th grade, Kellan Griffin and Kate Bernard, 8th grade.

1st Place Winners: Kylie Agon, 6th grade, Rose Prendiville and Melissa Wong, 7th grade, Mariel and Emily Zupsic and Amelia Ralston, 8th grade.

Overall grand prize winners were Emily, Mariel and Amelia who reported on the “A-B-C’s of Subliminal Messaging.”

Last week our fifth graders went to the court house to witness a case in action, and then parent, Julia Philbrook, took the kids to an empty courtroom to lead them through a mock trial.  Great experience!

Friday, our 6th, 7th and 8th graders traveled to Keller Auditorium to see “The Giver.”  This is Lois Lowry’s Newbery award winning novel for adolescents.  Our 7th graders have studied this novel in the recent past.

I am especially pleased to announce that Megan Baglien has qualified to participate at the state level of the National Geographic Bee, sponsored by JPMorgan Chase.  The state Bee will be held on Friday, March 31st at Western Oregon University.  We’re very proud of Megan and know she will do a great job representing St. Clare School.  Congratulations Megan!

Last Wednesday, our 8th graders took the lead in placing ashes on the foreheads of all who attended our Mass.  They also acted as Eucharistic Ministers, and prepared the entire liturgy.  It’s been a highlight to see these kids, who are almost ready to graduate, take this leadership and model it for the rest of our students.

I would like to publicly thank our 8th graders for helping to set-up/take down for the Auction, serve at dinner, and help with displaying Auction items.  They were a terrific help, especially when it was time to tear down and put everything back in its proper place.  They enjoyed “free dress” on Thursday as a token of my appreciation.  I am really proud of them.  What a great bunch of kids!

Parents, you should be very proud of the progress all of our students are making.  All you have to do is think back to last year or even September, and see the positive changes that have taken place.  Yeah Team!
