CATHOLIC SCHOOLS' WEEK
On Monday morning we
kicked off Catholic
School’s Week with
an assembly. I told the kids they were one of 1.8 million Catholic
school elementary students in the US! We reviewed the
school’s history and the profile of a St. Clare graduate. It was
nice to have the opportunity to tell our kids with all sincerity, how
good they are, how much they try to get along with one another, how
studious they are, and how much of a difference they make in the lives of
others by the social outreach we do at our school. These are the
things that distinguish us as a Catholic School.
When Kyle Hagmeier led us in prayer, his words were about seeking
justice, and building a relationship with God that would make a
difference in our world. I’m so proud of the ministry of Catholic
education. I feel that what we accomplish on a day-to-day basis is helping
to draw our students closer to God in a very contemporary way. When
we pray….”thy Kingdom come, thy will be done,” our students are learning
how to make this happen in their environment. I really get excited
when I think of the long term impact these kids will have on our
world. We start with an ideal, which IS the Gospel. When kids
understand and practice what it means, we get a little closer to the
meaning of the mission. When they interpret when best to apply the
Gospel and take risks to seek justice, and impart kindness and
compassion, we have truly built the Kingdom. Please join me, our
teachers and students in celebrating Catholic education, especially at St. Clare
School!
LAKE ST. CLARE!
As you could see when you arrived on Monday, there
was a lake in the parking lot! We thought we would stock it with
trout and teach fly fishing as an elective! The plumber came
yesterday and cleaned out the drain. Hopefully, this will hold
before we set another record for rainfall in Portland. If and when this should
happen again, we ask that cars park on the other side of the parking lot
until we can get a plumber out to fix it. Thank you.
ACCREDITATION
UPDATE: 2006-2008
We are about to begin the self-study leading to the
on-site visit by the National Association of Accredited Schools. As
you know, we were accredited in 2001-2002 with a six year term.
This year we will be updating information that explains how we have addressed
each of the recommendations given to us at the last accreditation.
Also, before the end of the year, we will ask you to complete a survey
indicating your satisfaction with our overall program. From your
comments we will create new goals, and consider your perspective as a
vital part of the self-study. Next year, the faculty will begin
writing the actual self-study document. The parish, SAC, other
councils, teachers, students, alumni and administration will be consulted
throughout the year. This is just a heads-up for what lies ahead!
