We are anxiously awaiting a celebration of St.
Clare’s community at The Carnaval Saturday, February 25. This event
not only generates a lot of dollars to pay for our school program, but it
is also a great time with our parents, preschool and parish. We
hope you will all have a wonderful time helping to keep our school
financially healthy.
On another topic, I’d like to address the “manners”
of our children during Mass.
I’ve asked teachers to work with our kids on improving their behavior or
demeanor in church. I invite you, as the primary educators of your
children, to reinforce the following:
· Genuflect
(facing the altar) before entering the pew.
· Respond
to Father when he says, “The Lord be with you,” “Lift up your hearts,”
etc. Students should be easily praying out loud the Holy, Holy,
Holy, the Lamb of God, and The Our Father.
· At
the Kiss of Peace, children tend to get a little wild. We are
asking that they exchange the greeting of peace to no more than 6 others
around them. It’s hard for kids to know when to turn it off when it
seems to be the most fun part of Mass!
· Please review with your children how to receive the
host, how to walk back to one’s pew and what to do once he/she gets
there. I’m finding too many children have no clue they have just
received Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, by the way they run back to
their pew, make smiling eye contact with others and visit with others
around them.
Reviewing these points with your child will
most certainly catch hold if both home and school work together on
this. Thanks for the support.
Did you know…..
….that parent, Mike Francis, who is with the
Oregonian, taught our students about newspaper reporting last
Friday? Many thanks from our 5th graders and Mrs. Monahan.
….that our Kindergarten children celebrated 100
days in school on Friday? They each received Zero the Hero capes
made by Rian Brennan and Lynn Fenton-Manlove. Kindergarten
and Mrs. Maher send their thanks to these two moms!
….the love ship landed here February 14th with lots
of classroom parties, a middle school social and more candy than
Halloween!
….that infirmed seniors from Mary’s Woods were
treated to a BINGO Valentine’s Day party last Wednesday in our
cafeteria. Our 5th graders hosted this event with their senior pals
who brought balloons for all of our 5th graders
….that Mrs. Acurso is putting the final touches on
this year’s Auction items made by our students. Wait till you see
this year’s masterpieces. Thanks Mrs. Acurso!
….that our 8th graders have completed their testing
for high school and submitted all application forms and
recommendations. They are patiently, but anxiously waiting for
their acceptance letters around the end of March.
…..there are only 7 more available spots in our
06-07 Kindergarten. Keep them coming!
Parents, during these very cold days, would you
please see that your child comes to school with a jacket and LONG
pants! We’ve had sub-freezing temperatures and you’d be amazed at
how many students show up in shorts! Gloves and hats would cut down
on the “I’m too cold” whining! Thank you.
Soon we will be preparing for Lent beginning with
Ash Wednesday on March 1st. We invite you to join us for the Ash
Wednesday all school Mass at 8:30 a.m. that morning. In the
meantime, you are welcome to join us Thursday, Feb. 23rd for an
all-school prayer service in the gym when we will also announce the Stand
Out and Shine awards for February.
SEE
YOU AT THE
CARNAVAL!
