PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

Dear Parents and Students,

The feedback we’ve received from Back To School Night is very positive.  Parents seemed to appreciate having more information about the initiatives we are committed to this year.  My thanks to each of you for “reporting to class” last Thursday night.  We hope the information was helpful in showing you ways to help your child succeed this year.

We have concluded the Child To Child Campaign sponsored by the National Catholic Education Association.  We have sent them a check for $4956.37.  Thank you parents and students for supporting so many people who need the assistance this money will provide.

Conferences are coming up sooner than you think.  This week I will be preparing the conference letter asking for times you can come for a conference.  Please mark your calendars for October 18-21.  Our goal is to communicate with you your child’s progress thus far.  This should provide ample time to raise grades, if that’s necessary, before the end of the trimester scheduled for December 1st.

It is important to affirm the good conduct and attitudes we enjoy here every day.  This year’s Stand Out & Shine awards will be as follows:

             September         Friendship

             October              Responsibility

             November          Cooperation

             December          Generosity

             January               Self-Discipline

             February            Honesty

             March                 Compassion

             April                    Respect

             May                    Perseverance

             June                   St. Clare Award

At the end of each month, one or two students from each classroom will be named to receive this award.  The traditional Smoecoas (Hot Cocoa with Sr. Moe) treat will be served the following week after Stand Out & Shine Awards are announced.  Teachers will make the selection and it will be based on how well a students lives out that virtue throughout the month.

The exterior of our building looked pretty shabby around late August.  I called David and Patricia Suva, who have Maria in our 1st grade.  They own a landscaping business and graciously agreed to clean up our exterior grounds before everyone arrived on the first day of school.  They trimmed, weeded, hoed, and cleaned up some pretty overgrown flower gardens.  Please join me in thanking them for their generosity and a job well done!

From a budgeting perspective I would like to emphasize how important working on fundraisers is to the success of our program.  We count on over $150,000 in fundraising dollars which is a significant line item in our budget.  Your help on committees may pale in comparison to a chairperson’s duties, but every hand that chips in to help is making a difference in inching our way toward this lofty goal.  When the target goals are achieved, I heave a huge sigh of relief because that money is already earmarked!  I can guarantee you that the chairs of these major fundraisers carry a huge weight on their shoulders to achieve estimated returns.  Let’s give them our full support every chance we are asked to help.  Remember how happy you made a faculty feel when they returned and saw all the improvements to their classrooms this year!  Thanks so much parents!
