Dear
Parents and Students,
It’s really
good to have you back. Fifteen new Kindergarten families and ten
new families with kids in grades1-8 have joined our St. Clare
community. Having so many walk down our hallways at 8:05 in the
morning is the greatest example that good old spirit has returned to our
school!
I’d
like to remind you of a few procedures/guidelines that you regularly face
with your children.
MEDICATION:
Please remember that we cannot dispense medication without having the prescription
in its original container and not without parents completing the form
that gives us permission to dispense medication. Students may not
carry medication on them. If a student needs an inhaler and must
carry it on their person, parents will need to complete a form for this
as well. These are State laws and will be strictly followed.
SICK
CHILDREN: I can’t tell you how many times a student is dropped off at
school who was sick before they came. I realize that parents get in
a bind and don’t always have childcare back-up when they have to be at
work; however, if a child reports to you that he/she has a headache,
tummy ache, or has had a fever, no matter how low, or has been throwing
up, please keep them at home. Sending sick children to school is
the best way to reduce the enrollment! Let’s keep raging viruses at
a minimum by keeping children home until they are well.
EXCUSES:
It is the school’s policy that children return from being ill with an
excused note from the parent. It is also required that parents send
a written note to the teacher prior to a student leaving for an
appointment. Frequently, we have a parent call saying, “I
forgot!”…….just like the kids! That’s fine, but not on a regular
basis!
TRAFFIC: If your last name begins with “A” through
“M,” you drop-off and pick-up your children on Freeman St.; all others
pick-up and drop-off on Spring Garden. If you wish to come
into the building, you must park on Spring Garden Rd. Except the
person who bought a parking space on Freeman St. at the Auction, no one
may park on Freeman St.
It is strictly for dropping-off and picking-up only. If relatives
do the transportation for you, please inform them of this policy.
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH
Back to School Night will be
distinctly different from last year in that it is devoted solely to you
learning how you can help your child succeed. While Parent’s Club
usually sponsored this night and provided opportunity for you to sign up
to help on events, they are postponing that request until we have Family
BINGO Night on October 7th in our gym. It’s billed as a
community building event for the whole family, and you won’t want to miss
it! Trish Hickman and
Eve McCarthy are planning one-fun-night!
Back To
School Night will begin with K-5 parents going directly to your child’s
classroom at 6:30. If you have more than one child, the second
session will begin at 6:50. All parents K-8, should be in the
church at 7:15 to begin a very informative presentation by Mrs. O’Mahony,
Mrs. Monahan, Miss Harmeyer, Mrs. Cree and myself. You will hear
about Differentiated Learning, 6 + 1 Traits of Writing, Peer Mediation,
Assessment, the School Improvement Plan (SIP), and the state of our
school. At 8:00, everyone goes home, except 6-8 grade parents who
will begin three sessions with middle school teachers from
8:00-9:00. You can see there is no transition time, so please go as
quickly to your next session as possible. We hope to make this an
evening in which you are enlightened about our specific goals for the
year, and feel equipped to help your child succeed and thrive at St. Clare
School.
We
are making every effort to see that each and every one of our students is
safe, happy, working hard, and helped in his/her area of particular
challenge. Your input, parents, is vital to our intervening on
behalf of your child. We look forward to working with you so that
come June 15, we all sit back admiring our kids saying, “A job
well-done!”
