AMY WILKINS

I feel lucky to report that I was born and raised in NW Portland.  I attended Cathedral School and fell in love with school from a young age.  Those who know me well might say I was an “anal” student.  I prefer to call it “conscientious,” but my family might argue that.  I loved to do school work and with that came success in school.   I loved my teachers throughout my education, which continued onto Jesuit High School. I was very much into athletics particularly soccer and when I wasn’t studying I was playing soccer.  I was lucky to be apart of such a strong program I was lucky enough to encounter some inspiring teachers who always told me that I should be a teacher.  Teaching was definitely my calling.

I continued my education onto the University of Arizona and enjoyed my college life very much. Maybe too muchJ I graduated in 4 years and moved back to Portland for Graduate school.   During my college years I moved to Spain and lived in a small beach town called San Sebastian for 6 months. I was fortunate to travel to over 10 countries before coming home.   I attended Lewis and Clark College to get my Masters in Elementary Education.  I was so fortunate to be hired by St. Clare for my dream job, which is working with your kids and having the opportunity to guide their faith and academic growth.  My secret to most anything is laughter and if you ask the kids in my room they will testify that this is true!

When I am not teaching I enjoy many things.  I spend a great deal of time with my family and we are so overjoyed with our new addition, Savanna.  I seem to be absolutely in love with my niece and see her many times a week.  I often go straight to my sister’s house to see Savanna.  We often spend weekends at our family’s home in Cannon Beach.  I enjoy working out, practicing yoga, skydiving (my favorite), Starbucks coffee, spending time with my boyfriend, Chris, taking walks, watching movies, watching Oprah and shopping.  I live in the Pearl District and enjoy the urban life. Lots of walking and great restaurants.

Teaching at St. Clare is all I hoped for and more.  The St. Clare community is so blessed to have such a talented staff working with their kids.  I feel honored to be a part of St. Clare.

I grew up as one of three children here in Portland, Oregon. I have two younger brothers named Adam and Conner. My middle brother, Adam, is in New York working very hard to pay his rent and Conner is down in Eugene enjoying being a college student. My parents are still here in Portland. In my free time I love to hang out with family and friends, cook, run, and read.

I should have known that my path would one day lead back to St. Clare. My family was parishioners here when I was younger, where I received my First Communion. I went on to attend Jesuit High School and then down to Eugene where I became a big Duck fan. Go Ducks! I stayed down there to receive my Masters in Education and promptly moved back up to Portland where I began my first job as a fifth grade teacher here at St. Clare. I absolutely loved it! Unfortunately, my time at St. Clare was short, as I got married to my husband, Matt, that following summer and joined him down in Austin, Texas where he worked on his Masters in Business Administration. I made him promise me that our move down there was not permanent. I know…a lot to ask. Lucky for me he worked very hard to get us back here, and after three years my wish came true. It didn’t take me long to get on the phone to Sr. Moe and let her know that I was here and would love a job back at St. Clare. I am so excited to be working with such a great group of teachers, and I feel so lucky to be surrounded by such great St. Clare families. This truly is a great place to work.
