When I sent out a memo
asking for help for St. Clare
School in Waveland, Mississippi,
the response was very generous. Seeing the pictures of the
devastation shakes me every time I look at them. Can you imagine if
that had happened to us? I continue to get emails from both the
principal and School Advisory Council chair of St. Clare’s School.
Our goal is to pack up the supplies, thanks to Teri Duffy and Maureen
Redshaw, and send supplies, St. Clare sweatshirts and your money
donations to them by tomorrow. St. Clare parish is paying for the
shipping. Hopefully, these students and teachers will receive our
support by the opening of school on October 24th. Thank you parents
and students for being so big-hearted!
Conferences are this
week. Please make sure you are on time. For various reasons,
we are really tight on time this year. As I may have mentioned
earlier, in the future, we will expand conference days to full days in
order to comfortably schedule everyone.
Our goal is to leave you
with a plan of action for your child’s success for the remainder of this
trimester. Progress reports go home today. These are simply
an indication of how your child is performing up to the moment. It
provides students ample time to raise his/her grades before we actually
send out the first report card on December 6th.
We think we have pretty high
standards for academic growth, as well as for study skills and social
behavior. For the most part, we find our students aspiring to meet
these standards. Where it isn’t happening, there is always a
reason. The conference is precisely the time to figure out why a
student is struggling, and assign a mutually agreeable plan to help a
student realize more success. Just like you, teachers are advocates
for your kids. We value the conference time because we are putting
“best heads” together to benefit your child. We look forward to
visiting with you very soon!

"To give you a little background about myself,
I grew up the youngest of nine children (five brothers and three
sisters). My family is so big that my older brothers and sisters
have kids older than me. I was born in Portland
but moved away to a tiny town in Eastern Oregon
called Long Creek. For those of you who remember Little House on
the Prairie, that was Long Creek. With not a lot to do I devoted my
time to practicing basketball and volleyball and was fortunate to be on
the varsity basketball and volleyball teams all four years of high school
and was athlete of the year for three of those.
After graduating from high school, I opted to turn
down a full ride scholarship to Wheaton
College in Illinois
to stay closer to home and attend Eastern Oregon
University in
LaGrande. After graduating I moved to Portland
to study for my master's in physical education at Portland State
University.
After completion of my master's program I accepted a job teaching PE k -
5 here at St. Clare. At that time I also assisted in the after school
program. After the re-addition of the middle school I became full
time as the PE/Health teacher.
In July of 2001 I married my wonderful husband Paul
who is a real estate broker. After being married a few years we
decided to start a family and on November 25th of 2003 the greatest gift
of our lives came into this world, Hudson Paul Cree. I am so
thankful to God for my family, fantastic coworkers and the greatest kids
to teach (I think the parents are pretty great too). Anyway, I am
happy to be back and look forward to another awesome year.
