It’s is the oldest school/church fundraiser I can
think of, but this one was distinctly different. Friday night’s BINGO
NIGHT accomplished what is near and dear to our families…..that
great sense of community that we all need and rely on throughout the
year. Ms. Harmeyer, Ms. Mac and I ate licorice with about 16-20 4th
graders surrounding our table, and we got just as excited when our number
was called as all the rest of them. Some 4th graders had
even written on the white butcher paper table clothes the first three of
the 10 Commandments they had to have memorized that day in
religion! Such enthusiasm!
Celebrating community is a chance to step out or
our routine, be with family and have some fun. We all thank Trish
Hickman and Even McCarthy for coming up with this idea, and masterminding
its success.
The work of our School Advisory Council
is underway. The Finance Committee, along with Patty and I, are
drafting the budget for 06-07. In addition, another committee is
looking into the feasibility of expanding our Kindergarten to a full
day. At the same time, we are asked to review the new Archdiocesan
Financial Plan that calls for us to align ourselves with its teacher
compensation schedule and funding from parishes. These could have
dramatic effects on our budget, but you can be assured that movement
toward these goals will be at as reasonable a rate as possible. At
all times, the SAC must balance the cost of salary and programs with the
affordability of Catholic education. To this end, we ask you to
pray for their deliberations and shed wisdom on our efforts to continue
to improve the excellence we enjoy here.
CONFERENCES have been
scheduled, and for Patty this has been a logistical nightmare. With
the combination of additional students, teachers needing more than 20
minutes with some conferences, and the request by parents to meet with each
of the middle school teachers, we simply ran out of time slots to
schedule conferences in the four half-days October 18th
through 21st. As a result, in the future we will
necessarily have to schedule full day conferences in order to have
adequate time to meet with everyone. For now middle school teachers
will meet through the evening in order to make sure every parent has a
conference.
We appreciate it when you are on-time for
conferences, and understand when the teacher ends your conference in
order to remain on schedule. If anyone is late, it backs up the
entire schedule from that point on. Teachers are using the
questions you’ve sent in to ensure that you are leaving with the
information you are seeking. If you have any questions, please do
call me.
