Dear Parents,
It has been brought to my attention that there are
some students entering through the BASC room early in the morning to go
into the hallway, get their books, and do their homework some place other
than the BASC room. This is unacceptable in as much as the school
is liable for each child walking through that door. Any child
entering the school building before the start of school will be staying
in the BASC room. You will be billed for both registration and time
spent in that room. We will not allow any child to be unattended in
the school building. The school building is open at 7:00 a.m. to
BASC students only. Any other students wanting to get homework and
wait out in their parent's car until school starts will not be allowed
into the building.
I would also like to take this time to address a
few other issues that have been brought to my attention. The first
would be the recent lice cases we have had. Parents, it is so
important that you check your child's head on a regular basis for lice.
If you find that your child has lice, the school must be notified.
Lice cases are kept confidential but we need to know in order to get it
under control. Please share with your students the importance
of not sharing combs, brushes, wearing each other’s coats and/or
sweatshirts. This is a problem that every school has each year and
if everyone takes the time to check and communicate we can keep this
under control. One more suggestion would be to have your female
student wear their hair up if at all possible.
The other issue at hand is unattended children in
the school. We have had several complaints about children running
about after school hours or on the weekends unattended by adult
supervision. There have been reports of children taking food into
the lower preschool classrooms and leaving their mess. There have also
been reports of children throwing various balls against the walls,
scuffing up the walls. We ask that parents please monitor your
children during coffee and donuts and during every event that brings them
to school after school hours. This is everyone's building to use
and it is also everyone's building to maintain and to share the cost of
upkeep and/ or repair. We love the fact that your children feel
comfortable in the school but we ask that you continue with oversight
when they are in the building.
Lastly, parents we ask that you please call in your
sick children by 7:00 a.m. It helps us know that they are
home safe and it alleviates the guess work from the teachers as to how
many students to plan for the day and/or if they should be waiting on one
child to leave for a field trip. Also, for clarification, if your
child is home more than one day, we ask that you continue to call to let
us know they will be missing additional days. Thank you, parents,
for showing us your continued support in making this a safe environment
for your children.
NOW ON TO MORE TEACHER BIOS:
DOLORES
DOOHAN, BVM
"My
brother and I were born and raised in that lovely city by the Golden Gate!! After graduating from St. Paul's High School (site of the movie Sister
Act) I entered the religious congregation known as the Sisters of Charity
of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) in Dubuque,
Iowa. Two and a half
years later I pronounced my vows on March 19, 1949. I did get my
degree at Holy Names College
in Oakland, CA, and have been so fortunate to
attend colleges and universities wherever I've been sent to teach.
My teaching experiences have taken me to Missoula,
Mt; Chicago, IL;
Sacramento, CA;
Kauai, HI, and then here to this fine
school! It was actually in Sacramento
that I became involved in sports - teaching football plays and organizing
teams. Then I became interested in helping with the track teams.
Perhaps it was a sixth grade boy who influenced me the most when he said,
"I'm glad you're interested in something else besides
books." When I went to Hawaii
I continued my interest especially in track and then here at St. Clare
where I was athletic director for a number of years.
Outside
of school I enjoy baking and going to the coast whenever I can. I
cultivated a love for the beach in Hawaii
and it always beckons to me!!
Six
years ago after much prayer and discernment I realized it was time to
leave the classroom. Now I'm enjoying my tutoring position
immensely. What a privilege it is to help these young students in
their growth as beloved children of our good God!
