The 7th Grade enjoyed a day off-campus on retreat at the Evangelical Ministries
Center, spending the day under the
guidance of Joe Leahy, St. John
the Apostle Youth Minister. In preparation for their retreat, Joe came and
spent a Friday with the students getting to know them and their concerns
and issues.
Arriving at the retreat center, Joe led the class in a Caribbean version of “Lean on Me,” which became their
retreat song for the rest of the day. The students participated in several
small group activities, large group discussions, quiet reflection time, and
an end-of-the-day prayer service. Themes for the day ranged from tolerance
and acceptance to understanding why bad things happen to good people. The
discussions of faith and choices were insightful and sincere. Although the
morning was rainy, the clouds parted long enough for lunch outside and time
to run and play.
Overall the day was good. The students enjoyed the relaxed
atmosphere and the time to be together. Many thanks go out to Joe Leahy for
preparing the retreat and to the parents who volunteered to drive: Cheryl
Milo, Tim Zweber, Anne Johnson, Joe Cramer, Rich Cassinelli, and Nancy
Brown.
No trip happens like this without a lot of preparation and
planning. Thanks is in order to Ms. Harmeyer for all of her hard
work and commitment to make this event happen for her kids.
