Dear Sixth Grade Parents,

Next week  in Sixth Grade Religion we are beginning our Family Life curriculum.  Over the next month we will be studying the following themes:

            “Created and Loved by God”,

            “Living in Relationship”,

            “Created Sexual: Male and Female”,

            “Growing in Commitment”, and

            “Living in the World”.

Each of these themes will integrate the Catholic moral teachings that emphasize the sacredness of all life and the responsibility to respect all of God’s creation.  The framework for these topics is the Fully Alive textbook.  Students will be engaged in a variety of activities including classroom reading and discussion, creative projects, parent interviews, role playing, word puzzles, and a final test.  Parents will be asked to sign some of the homework assignments.  My hope is that these signed assignments will foster an opportunity for parents to discuss various issues with their children.  The ultimate goal of this program is to serve as a supplement and support to the parents in training their children in these areas of Catholic/Christian morality.  I encourage all parents to look for extra opportunities to discuss the above themes and any other related topics that your son/daughter brings to you over the next few weeks.

Please sign the bottom portion of this letter and return it to school with your son/daughter.  He/she will earn 5 points in Religion class for bringing this back to school by Thursday May 1, 2008.  (4-1 points will be given if the signed portion is brought back between May 2-8.)

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Cathy Kollars

Sixth Grade Religion Teacher
