You will
be creating a scrapbook reflecting the experiences of A or B below:
A)
You
are an African American individual during a specific event of the Civil Rights
Movement in the 1940s-1960s. You will choose your topic from the list provided
with Mrs. K’s approval.
B)
You
are an American living during a specific event of the Vietnam Era from
1963-1975. Select a theme from the list
provided with Mrs. K’s approval.
There are six distinct elements that you must include in
your scrapbook. Each one will be a
completely or partly original creation by you based on research you have
completed. You need to make your final
project look like a scrapbook. You will
include a bibliography following the format explained on page H66 of your
English book with 3 or more sources. At
least two of your sources must be a non-internet source.

5 1)
Make a cover for your
scrapbook which highlights your
character name
and topic. In a lower corner include your #, name, and
due date.
10 2)
Your project should resemble a scrapbook in appearance and
organization.
10 3)
Knowledge Photocopy or
download at least 5 photographs related
to
your topic. Write original captions for each picture that
personalize the
pictures to you.
10 4)
Comprehension Write 2
or more postcards from family members,
friends, supporters or
detractors who have participated in your struggle,
who are offering you their support, or who are
critical of you and your
situation. Give evidence of specific events and
situations.
15 5)
Application Write an interview script with at
least 10 questions and
answers to which you
respond. Questions and answers should
relate to
specific topic and the challenges
you (and others) faced. At least half
of the questions should
begin with “how” or “why”. Answers
should
demonstrate some depth of understanding the issues.
15 6) Analysis Make a chart, diagram, or map related to
your topic. Include
appropriate titles,
captions, a key, etc. Include a short paragraph
explanation of what some
problems and possible outcomes in your
struggle will be.
10 7)
Synthesis Design an original advertisement, flier, etc. promoting a
positive change related to
your specific topic. Include facts,
persuasive
language, and some kind of
graphics. This may be computer
generated, hand drawn, or a
combination of both.
15 8)
Evaluation Write an original editorial expressing an
opinion about your
specific topic. Include facts to back up the opinions. Make
your editorial
resemble an actual newspaper
clipping with a title, byline, columns, etc.
The editorial should be at
least three paragraphs long.
10 9)
Include a bibliography of at
least 3 sources. At least two
sources
must be a non-internet
source. Use the format on page H66 of
your
English book. Any non internet source should be a valid
research site.
10 10)
Keep all work neat. Do not write on the backs of pages. You may
use non-traditional ink
colors to make project resemble a real
scrapbook. Glue or
tape different elements of project neatly and
securely in scrapbook.
10 11)
Use proper conventions
including spelling, punctuation, grammar,
etc.
5 12) Complete the top of this direction page and attach it to the end
of
your project.
