Book Report – Written Report

Objective: For this book report, you will type a formal book report. Your typed report will include a summary of the story, information regarding the setting, and information regarding the conflict and solution.

1.      Summary 2-4 paragraphs: The summary should include the name of the book and the name of the author. A good summary tells the audience of the setting, the characters, some of the major events, and the conflict. The summary does not give all the events and does not give away the resolution(s).

2.    Setting 2-4 paragraphs: In your description of the setting, you want to use information and details provided in the book. Questions to consider:

©     Where does the story take place? Is it a real place or a fictional city, time, country, planet?

©     What does it look like? Does it look like earth? Does it have a climate? Is it futuristic? Flying cars? Space pods for houses? Talking animals?

If you are using a direct quote or information pulled word-for-word from the text of the book, be sure to include a page # after the sentence.

3.    Conflict 2-4 paragraphs: What is the problem(s) in the story that needs to be solved?

       Questions to consider:

©     Do the bad aliens have the secret book that gives them all the powers?

©     Does the main character have to go on a journey to retrieve the   magical stone to be king of the universe?

©     Do the girls have to solve their own problems with the help of the magical pants?

Do not tell how the problem(s) is solved; do tell if the solution is appropriate to the book. As a reader, did you find the solution acceptable or unacceptable? Why?

When you begin writing your paragraphs, please bring them to me and let me help you write and proofread them. This will help make for better final paragraphs.
