Book Series and Authors I Don’t Recommend

The Gossip Girl series and the It Girl series both by Cecily Von Ziegesar: Characters are typically very shallow, materialistic, and plotting mean acts of revenge and humiliation against other girls. Some of the books also have sexual content that is not appropriate for middle school.

The Dating Game series by Natalie Standiford, the author of Legally Blonde: Often the characters are engaged in mean and vengeful behavior without many consequences. Again some of the books can have sexual content that is not appropriate for middle school.

Cirque du Freak series and the Demonata series by Darren Shan: Very dark, morbid, scary content about vampires and demons among us

Author Sarah Dessen – the content is often too mature for middle schoolers. Some of the books also have sexual content that is not appropriate for middle school.

If, as parents, you don’t object to your student reading these books and/or authors, I would like to ask that you have your student keep these books at home. I prefer that they not be in my classroom where other students might be able to get to them. If I find these books, I will collect them and hold them until a parent comes to pick them up. Thank you
