W – F  10:20 – 11:05 Daily Oral Language/Vocabulary/Language arts

                           Writing/Sustained Silent Reading

Students use their d.o.l. notebooks to write down and correct sentences for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. When everyone is done, two students come to the Smartboard and make the corrections for the class to see. Everyone will get a chance to correct on the Smartboard. Silent reading time is provided.

Students will be using their language arts notebooks to take notes from the language arts book, to write practice paragraphs, to complete homework.

Every month we will complete a “Quick Write,” a creative writing exercise. We will use these pieces to practice our 6+1 Writing traits, peer proofreading, editing, and rubric scoring skills.

We also memorize and recite six poems for presentation in class.

T       10:20 – 11:05 Library/Computer Time

T-Th   1:15 – 2:05    Literature

We use both novels and our anthology to study literature. We cover short stories, poetry, essays, biographies, autobiographies, and non-fiction pieces. Our first novel is Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. We will be completing six book reports this year in a variety of styles. Students will usually have a choice as to what kind of report  to complete
