If a student turns in an assignment without putting their name on their paper, their paper will land in the Doldrums.  Assignments in the Doldrums are considered late.  If a student receives a Missing Assignment Sheet and they thought they already turned in a particular assignment, they are more than welcome to check the Doldrums for their paper.

I have hundreds of books available in the classroom for students to read.  Each book has a colored dot and a number on it.  Books can be found in baskets or on display.  When a student finishes with a book they should check the colored dot and return it to the corresponding basket.  I have no problem if students want to take classroom books home to read, but I just ask that they make it back to school.  I’ve lost many books over the past few years!

Each student has their own mailbox.  At the end of each day, students are dismissed in groups to go back and collect their mail.  Papers should be put immediately into a folder and taken home.  I try to pass back assignments and tests in a timely manner.

Students are assigned various jobs to help with in the classroom and throughout the school.  Not all students will have a job every week, but certainly every two weeks.  Students choose an available job when their name is drawn.

If you would like to bring in birthday treats to celebrate your child’s birthday, please let me know at least one week in advance for planning purposes.  We have some students with summer birthdays, so if your child falls into that category feel free to bring in treats for their half birthday or maybe even an end-of-the year celebration.
